Problem based learning is not for everyone. Each person is unique in their own way, and they have their own unique ways of learning. For some students having a problem to solve will teach them so much more than say sitting in on a lecture. Everyone's learning styles are different, I personally learn more from being hands on, lectures do nothing for me due to a mix of short attention span and selective hearing! Some professors choose to lecture over problem based solving. Maybe it is a matter of the material they are teaching, some things are hard to make PBL than others. Or maybe the professor feels lecturing is the most effective way to learn. I really enjoyed the problem base learning we did in class. I think that learning through experience can be the best way of learning, even if it's a rough lesson.

I also learn from hands on. I think PBL is a great idea,as long as everyone can learn from it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that everyones styles are different and we as teachers need to be aware of this. Just because we learn that way doesn't mean our students learn the same way and we have to remember that.
